I Didn't Know A Phone Could Do That

It has been a spell since I actively posted with great regularity. At present, it is late, I am getting tired and my eyes are still burning. That said, I am feeling a short burst of inspiration to write again actively. Being currently bereft of any editorial ability concerning grand ideas on pointless topics, I would like to jump start my blogging life again with some random thoughts before going to sleep...

...I went to a friend's place this evening for a fondue party. It was a small get-together with good people that I enjoy being with. I have never experienced the fondue atmosphere, but I think I am hooked. It's a neat way of breaking bread, both literally and figuratively, with your fellow human. It becomes an interesting social experiment in community building as well. Possibly a microcosmic view on how to better repair the cracks in the greater societal foundation. My reason: food becomes the great equalizer. Every class of person eats the same way and a good meal tends to bring the walls down. Or perhaps I am over thinking and giving humans too much credit to evolve? Or maybe I just chose the right assembly of people to dine with?

...I went kayaking for the first time last weekend. I was actually nervous to fall in the lake, mostly due to concern over what ripple effect would mushroom from losing my wallet and ability to maintain my already tenuous livelihood. After overcoming the initial apprehension, I loved being so vulnerable and in the moment. I also managed the best upper body workout I have seen in quite some time. When the euphoria of said workout subsided, I returned to the realization that I am simply in terrible shape.

...I learned another micro-lesson about humans this week. I maintain my belief that we are collectively a bad species that is evolving far too slowly for our own best interests. Technology, existing in part to help buttress our evolution and ability to learn is instead proving detrimental. Outside of this train of thought, people remain as selfish and oblivious to those around us, even in close proximity, to foster any hope for a truly kinder and more thoughtful world. That being said, sometimes you just have to let others be the ignoramuses that they were raised to be and find your own happiness in the little things.

...Through this and all other of life's irritants, music has been the life's blood for me and there has been a plethora of new recordings to satisfy me. From the latest Intronaut to the brilliant new Queens Of The Stone Age album to listening to the last three records from The Ocean Collective on Spotify, music always knows just what to say to make me smile.

Queens Of The Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
The Ocean - Heliocentric
The Dillinger Escape Plan - One Of Us Is The Killer
