All Hail General Consensus

...the constant tug of war between philosophies is a subject that has me thinking and re-thinking much of late. There is a part of me that feels as if it is a fascinating phenomenon that can only end horribly. There is another that feels that it is yet another in an endless series of radar blips that ultimately add up to not much. Angles and points of views I would have long suspected dead by now not only survive, but thrive under new auspices.

This morning, I considered updating my Facebook status to read "Humanity will never reach a general consensus." Plain. Vague. Vanilla. Obtuse. Only issue? It was possible to turn into a weird, days-long battle of meaning, examples, argument and screaming in all caps. Why? I think that people are hardwired to argue whenever the chance arises. Disagree? Feel free to argue.

...the second annual Friendsgiving happened this past Saturday. Essentially, it is a potluck of Thanksgiving-like food amongst friends and those who choose not to wish anyone any specific harm. Or a pre-holiday dinner party amongst friends, if you will. As was the year prior, it was a splendid time had by all. We laughed. A few of us cried a little, first from laughing and then by some actual crying that then morphed back into laughing. Some did an inordinate amount of yelling. I couldn't hear Gary Gulman. We failed to play Carcasonne. Still, I recommend throwing one if you have the space and the friends to do so.

...Rescue Me and The Shield are appealing to me more of late with the same excitement they managed when still on the air. This season of television has been a tidal wave of one disappointment after another. While collecting dust on the DV-R, I get weekly news updates of the quick downward spiral of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Every new sitcom has ranged from a mediocre retread to a mind-boggling crater of toxic waste. While many critics still refer to current times as the next great age of television, it feels like a downward trend is beginning. As such, I am looking to Tommy Gavin and Vic Mackey to hold me over...at least until Raylan Givens returns after the holidays.
