Mail Me Or I'll Die....Or Something Like That
One definitive thing that I can state about most films from Japan is this: I never forget them. That being said, sometimes the strange aspects of these films are either too random to be terribly enjoyable or are trapped in between too many slow portions to make the journey worthwhile. Both examples apply here. "Suicide Club" is constructed on a shoestring narrative about random groups of kids gleefully committing suicide. The theme is intended to be either a commentary or sendup of pop culture and it's effects on youth, but the death sequences were for too comical and inconsequential to mean anything. "Suicide Club" also lacks a central character, but rather features a loose cadre of circumstantial characters that have different roles in trying to solve the mysterious suicides. And then, there's the Japanese Ziggy Stardust guy that likes to stomp on cats and play the guitar. Like I said....random. It seems to miss the mark on most serious fronts and the unintentional comedy-laden gore portions are somewhat few and too far between to make repeat viewings worth your time. Read into it what you will if you like, but "Suicide Club" is better off left for dead.- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone
